Giving Merch a Second Life — Supporting Communities, Not Landfill
At Arcadia, our journey toward greater sustainability is always evolving — and we’re proud to have taken another meaningful step forward.
One of the challenges we’ve faced is ensuring that surplus branded merchandise never ends up in landfill. We know how much care and quality goes into these products, and we believe they should always find a purpose.
So when we were informed earlier this year that over 5,000 high-quality branded items were no longer needed by one of our clients, we knew we had to find a responsible solution.
Thanks to the incredible work of A Good Thing — a not-for-profit charity dedicated to connecting businesses with local charities — we were able to turn a potential waste issue into something genuinely impactful.
Led by Arcadia Director Simon Dalton, we partnered with A Good Thing founder Cathy, who helped us connect with Crisis UK, the national charity working to end homelessness.
What followed was a donation that included an impressive array of merchandise: warm puffer jackets, Patagonia fleeces, Nike polo shirts, caps, baby grows, tumblers, Moleskine notebooks, stylus pens, and more. In total, over 1,200kg of unused but valuable merchandise was rehomed.
Collection was arranged directly from our London warehouse by Crisis Warehouse and Facilities Manager Richard Davies, who ensured every item was distributed directly to people experiencing homelessness. As Richard said:
“These sorts of donations always go to the people experiencing homelessness. The individuals whom we help. No middleman is used — we hand items directly to those individuals.”
This initiative reflects our commitment to making branded merchandise not just useful, but meaningful — and to ensuring our work supports both people and the planet wherever possible.
